Experience the stories
The Literatuurmuseum/Kinderboekenmuseum in The Hague is not only the repository of Dutch literature, full of manuscripts, photographs, objects and children's book drawings. It is also a family museum where you will meet story characters, play literary games and be challenged to use your imagination. Experience is central to the museum, but when you went to the restroom for a moment, it stopped. That is why Sanimood and the museum have joined forces to make even the toilet visit an experience.
Wondrous walls
By collaborating with the museum, we were able to use some original illustrations from the museum collection for the wall coverings. From the cheerful illustration by Max Velthuijs from Kikker is bang to the cozy illustration made by Annet Schaap for Lekker zelf lezen with Jacques Vriens. And for each illustration we chose an appropriate quote. In total we used these beautiful illustrations to transform eighteen different toilet areas into a total experience, each with a unique story. Is your favorite children's book among them?
Playful mirrors
To add an extra dimension and cheer to the washrooms, the quotes from the books are placed so that you can only read them properly when looking at them through the mirror. Or of course, if you like an extra challenge, you can try reading the text backwards!
Our working method
We are involved in all of our projects from design to completion. This includes this project for the Literature Museum/Children's Book Museum. We pay close attention to the sustainability of our restrooms and make sure that everything is 100% customized. Because of our antibacterial wall panels and smooth floors, the rooms can also be cleaned much easier and faster, should anything have been spilled on them. The absence of grout also makes this easier, and it creates a sleek look in these eighteen restrooms that makes the illustrations stand out even more.
